Ahuja confirmed as OPM Director

The Senate approved the nomination of Kiran Ahuja to serve as the Director of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) today. Vice President Harris broke the 50-50 party-line vote to confirm Ahuja.

Ahuja will fill the position that has been vacant since March 2020 and will lead OPM, the federal agency that provides human resources policy and manages healthcare, life insurance, and retirement benefits for federal employees and retirees. The agency makes decisions that affect letter carriers including providing policy direction and oversight for human resources systems and the administration of many of the benefits for active and retired letter carriers.

Ajuha is an attorney who served as the Chief of Staff to the OPM Director from 2015-2017 and served six years as the director of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

“NALC congratulates Kiran Ahuja on this important confirmation,” said NALC President Fredric Rolando. “After a long vacancy, we are pleased to see a new director confirmed to lead OPM.”
